Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice: Upholding the Highest Standards of Scientific Integrity

Journal of English Language for Linguistics and Literary Studies (JELLLS), published by the Department of English at the College of Education for Women, Al-Iraqia University, is committed to promoting ethical conduct, integrity, and excellence in publishing research in the fields of linguistics, literature, and related cultural studies. Through this statement, we seek to create an academic environment that values originality, transparency, and accountability. Our policies represent a commitment to the core practices of publication ethics that editors, authors, and reviewers must adhere to throughout the publication process.

First: Responsibilities of Editors

1.     Editorial Decision: The journal's editors make their decisions based on academic importance, originality, and relevance to the field, while ensuring the peer review process is conducted fairly and in a timely manner.

2.     Confidentiality: Editors maintain the confidentiality of all materials submitted to the journal and do not disclose any information except to the relevant editorial staff and reviewers.

3.     Conflict of Interest: Editors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from handling any manuscript that may be affected by them.

 

Second: Responsibilities of Authors

1.     Originality and Non-Plagiarism: Submitted works must be original and previously unpublished. The work of others must be properly acknowledged, and plagiarism or unauthorized self-plagiarism is prohibited.

2.     Accuracy of Data and Results: Data, methodologies, and results must be accurate and reliable, and authors are obliged to correct any errors promptly upon discovery.

3.     Authorship and Acknowledgment: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a substantive contribution to the research, and all authors must approve the final version prior to submission.

4.     Multiple and Concurrent Submissions: Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously is prohibited.

5.     Disclosure of Funding and Conflicts: All sources of financial support and any potential conflicts of interest that could affect the results or their interpretation must be disclosed.

6.     Data Sharing and Reproducibility: Authors are encouraged to make their data available through recognized repositories to contribute to transparency and the verifiability of results.

7.     Ethical Approval: Studies involving human participants or sensitive data must follow internationally accepted ethical standards and provide proof of approval from relevant.

  

Third: Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers

1.     Nature of the Review Process: Reviewers evaluate manuscripts objectively, provide constructive feedback, and report any potential ethical concerns.

2.     Confidentiality: Reviewers maintain the confidentiality of the review process and refrain from using information from the manuscript for personal purposes.

3.     Conflict of Interest: They must disclose any conflicts of interest and decline to review when necessary.

 

Fourth: Publication Malpractice

1.     Plagiarism and Misconduct: The journal adheres to a zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, and other forms of research misconduct, which may lead to manuscript rejection and notification of the authors' affiliated institutions.

2.     Corrections and Retractions: The journal collaborates with authors to issue corrections or retractions for published articles upon the discovery of significant errors, to ensure the integrity of the academic record.

3.     Editorial Oversight: Editors bear responsibility for overseeing the implementation of and ensuring compliance with these ethical policies.

4.     Intellectual Property: Authors respect intellectual property rights and ensure obtaining necessary permissions for any materials used. Published works are subject to the journal's copyright policy.

 

Fifth: Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage Policy

          The journal acknowledges the opportunities and challenges that generative artificial intelligence presents for academic publishing and establishes the following guidelines to ensure its responsible and transparent use:

Guidelines:

1.     Human Accountability: Full responsibility for the accuracy and originality of the content remains with the authors. AI systems cannot be recognized as authors.

2.     Transparency: Any use of AI that goes beyond simple auxiliary tasks (such as basic spelling or grammar checking) must be clearly declared.

3.     Integrity: All existing ethics policies, including those concerning plagiarism and authorship, apply to works that utilize AI.

Authors have the right to:

•     Share their articles in non-commercial contexts, such as educational purposes, academic conferences, or institutional repositories after publication.

•     Reproduce all or sections of their work for scholarly use, books, with proper attribution to the Journal of English Language for Linguistics and Literary Studies (JELLLS).

•     Share their article, published version, on personal websites or social media.

•     Share electronic or print copies of the article with others.

•     Translate the manuscript into other languages.

•     If ethical or legal issues occur, authors have the right to withdraw their work.
